WELL, BAD NEWS ON THE WORLD TOUR.... WE ARE WELL HAPPY BUT VERY FRUSTRATED...AFTER 2 DAYS OF INTENSE NEGOTIATIONS THE RUSSIAN HAVE REFUSED TO ADMIT THE MUSTANG....THEY STATE MANY REASONS BUT I THINK THE CHIEF CONTROLLER IN RIGA HAS THE REAL ANSWER. ..HE WORKED VERY HARD TO HELP US INCLUDING TALKING TO THE RUSSIAN AIRSPACE MANAGER WHO IS A FRIEND OF HIS ...I LISTENED TO THE CALL WHICH LASTED ABOUT ONE HALF HOUR IN WHICH AFTER EXCHANGING PLEASANTRIES THEY GOT TO BUSINESS. HE OFTEN GETS PERMISSION FOR AIRCRAFT ENTRY FROM THE RUSSIANS ON VERY SHORT NOTICE SINCE THEY ARE NEIGHBORS AND THEY RECIPROCATE..HE THOUGHT AT FIRST HE COULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM...BUT THINGS ARE IN HIS JUDGMENT BEING CONTROLLED BY HIGHER UPS IN THE RUSSIAN MILITARY...WHY...BECAUSE WE HAVE A NEW PLANE WHICH THE RUSSIAN HAVE NO EXPERIENCE, HAVE NOT INSPECTED AND THE ONLY ROUTE THAT WORKED WENT RIGHT THRU SOME IN THEIR WORDS SENTITIVE MILITARY AREAS AND NO OFFER OF MINE TO HAVE THEM INSPECT THE AIRPLANE IN MOSCOW WAS TO ANY AVAIL....WE WERE TAKING A VERY NOTHERN ROUTE...WELL ANYWAY WHAT IS NEXT....WE ARE IN STRASSBOURG TONITE,WED, AND PLAN A FEW DAYS IN ALGARVE BEFORE COMING TO PARIS FOR A FEW DAYS OF THE AIRSHOW BEGINNING ON MONDAY...THE MUSTANG IS A FABULIOUS PLANE...I PROBABLY HAVE MORE HOURS FLYING IT THEN ANYONE EXCEPT THE TEST PILOTS AND WILL SOON EXCEED THEM..I REALLY ENJOY THE COMPLEXITY OF IT ALL....SO I WILL KEEP THE BLOG GOING FOR THE DEVOTED FEW......STRASSBOURG IS BEAUTIFUL TONITE...A REAL KISSAME NITE AS WE SAY IN SONOMA...LUNCH WITH CHRIS KRUEGER TOMORROW AND THEN ON TO LISBON...ALL BE WELL. FRED, PLEASE DO KEEP THE BLOG GOING - I THINK YOU HAVE MORE THAN A 'FEW' DEVOTED FANS (EVEN THOUGH NOT EVERYONE POSTS COMMENTS). WHO KNOWS, PERHAPS QUOTES FROM YOUR BLOG WILL BE USED IN AN UPCOMING ARTICLE IN 'FLYING' MAGAZINE (YOUR JOURNEY WOULD BE A UNIQUE STORY, FOR SURE).
THE NEWS ABOUT RUSSIA IS UNFORTUNATE, BUT THAT'S THE BEST PART OF AN ADVENTURE - YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT.
UNTIL THE NEXT INSTALLMENT OF 'FURTH/BRANDEN WORLD TOUR'...
KELLY.
CAPTIAN AND BRANDEN,
SORRY TO HEAR THAT YOU AND BRANDEN WERE DENIED ENTRY INTO RUSSIA. (THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE MISSING) :) WE HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED THAT THINGS HAPPEN FOR A REASON. HOPEFULLY THIS RUSSIAN NYET WILL TURN OUT TO BE A GOOD THING FOR THE BOTH OF YOU. BE SAFE AND OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU.
REX AND CAROL
That is too bad about the World Tour. What is next for the Kalladela, Furth, and Branden?
How about an Equator Trip. Follow the Equator all the way around the world. See alot more that Snow and Ice.....
Well at least you getting to see some fabulous locals! Keep the blog going want to see what flight adventures are next.
Til then Wind at your back and airspaces to be plenty.
Keith
We're still hanging on every word, so keep blogging and adding photos. There is an adventure at every turn.
The main thing is to be safe and don't mess with the Ruskies! ;)
I SENT MY MOM AND DAD THE LINK TO YOUR BLOG - THEY'RE VERY IMPRESSED. THEY SEND THEIR "PRAYERS FOR A VERY SAFE JOURNEY".
KELLY.
Onward and upward Captain. This has been a trip of challanges and advanture. What more can we ask out of life.
And then we also get to hear from B saying Woffff!! How about a Wofff Wofff?
You've got to love the man and his dog!
During his visit to the USSR, Nixon was intrigued by a new telephone capable of connecting with hell. He spoke briefly with the devil, and the call cost him 27 cents. When he came back home, he found out that this same service was now available in the US too. He tried it again and received a bill for $12,000. Nixon was distressed.
- How come?! The same call only cost me 27 cents in the USSR.
- Well, said the operator. Over there it is a local call.
Is this thing broken? No updates since Wednesday the 13th! What's going on?
Thinking about you and hope all is well.
